Skim Milk is the solo project of Sam Davidson, a contemporary clarinetist and producer from Vancouver BC. Skim Milk reaches across technologies and eras, from Bach to Boards of Canada, often citing soulful drum grooves, whimsical clarinet melodies, and antique piano riffs.

Having a strong background in classical music and jazz improvisation, Davidson currently uses foundations of hip hop and electronic music as creative medium where he can freely explore many genres and steal from them accordingly.

Skim Milk is the paper mache of music genres—yesterday’s news, shredded and pasted together to craft something entirely new and original (sometimes filled with candy). Sam Davidson is also a member of critically acclaimed band Brasstronaut and of Toronto-based Jaron Freeman-Fox and the Opposite of Everything.

By reaching across genres, instruments, technologies and eras, Davidson not only evokes impressions of past greats, but asserts his music as a new synthesis of these far-flung elements.
