Hey Everyone, I am super stoked to be playing this show at the HR MacMillan Space Centre, otherwise known as the Vancouver Planetarium on March 15, 2017. Come lean back in your chair and be mesmerised by the amazing new digital Domecast system at the space centre and enjoy the ambient, rockin instrumentals. I've got a totally new program lined up that I am really excited to share. The event link is right here!
Hey Folks, proud to announce my new album "Fingerprints" is available now on Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music, Itunes, Google Play, Amazon and Tidal. Here is the album art by the one and only Michael Markowsky:
Hey everyone, I've got a cool new album out next month and will be kicking it off with a release show at The Juniper Room on Saturday October 14th with a stellar band. Sharing the bill will be the incredible talents of Vancouver guitarist Tom Wherret and his solo project "Lonely Astronaut." There is limited seating in this really tiny and intimate venue, you should not miss out! Tickets are available in advance right here!
Finally I've released these songs after many months of squandering! here's a few words:
In August of 2016, after a flurry of summer shows, Skim Milk brought his dynamic trio to East Vancouver’s beloved Monarch Studios to document what they had accomplished. With recording engineer/producer Will Howie at the helm, the musicians worked through a suite of original songs crafted from the components of old but enlivened with a contemporary flare.
Joined by drummer Cam Stephens and Joseph Lubinsky-Mast the ensemble blends a live-off-the-floor feel combined with secret samples and oblique jazz references.
This past August Skim Milk hit Monarch Studios in Vancouver and recorded some new song we had been touring all summer. The result is a suite three songs I am excited to share with you.
Going one step further than previous releases, "The Monarch Session" takes some digital sketches and adapts them to a live band. It represents the developments the project made over the summer as we figured out how to make these songs work as a live set. It was challenging but with the dedicated spirit of Cam Stephen's on drums, and Joe Lubinsky-Mast on bass, we had it going on. ALSO this session was produced by recording genius Will Howie in pristine sonic detail.
Holy moly what a year for Skim Milk! Thanks to everyone who came out to shows this year and supported my music this year, I am hoping I've laid the ground work for what will be an even better 2017.
I've got a new EP in the can, and the release is slowly coming together as well as a having bunch of new instrumentals in the works. If I'm really lucky I may release three volumes of music this coming year which would be a feat. The music is evolving and I am taking new approaches to the way I create and refining my idea of what I want this music to sound like.
Current obsession is 70's Brazilian jazz, the life and times of JS Bach and slicing the shiz out of samples.
See you next year!
Coming up this week, Skim Milk will be hitting up Monarch Studios to record his new EP and film a live in studio video! I am very excited to finally document this awesome new trio I've been working with. We debuted this set at the Midsummer Fest and at some low key Vancouver events. Now it's all ready to go, and I am excited for you to hear it!
I have also just booked my first show for the fall season, which will be on October 10th at The Fox Cabaret! More details to come.
